Tinubu Showers Super Falcons With National Honours, Cash, And Homes For WAFCON Triumph

President Bola Tinubu has honored the Super Falcons with the national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) following their historic victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco — Nigeria’s 10th continental title.

Hosting the triumphant team at the Presidential Villa on Monday, July 28, President Tinubu praised the players for their patriotism and resilience, describing their success as a testament to the enduring strength of the Nigerian spirit.

“I have received this trophy on behalf of all Nigerians,” Tinubu said. “Thank you for your dedication, passion, and for reminding us of the strength of the Nigerian spirit. On behalf of a grateful nation, I hereby confer on the players and the 11-man technical team the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).”

To further reward their outstanding performance, Tinubu announced a generous package:

  • Each of the 24 players will receive the naira equivalent of $100,000.

  • The 11-man technical team will receive $50,000 each (in naira equivalent).

  • All players and technical team members will be allocated a three-bedroom apartment.

In addition to the presidential gifts, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, who is also the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, pledged ₦10 million each to the 24 players and technical team on behalf of all Nigerian governors.

President Tinubu concluded his remarks with a powerful message of unity and hope:

“Once again, I congratulate you and I will continue to pray for you. With this, Nigeria’s spirit is unyielding and will never die.”

The celebration marked not just a victory for women’s football, but a moment of national pride for the entire country.
