Mourning A Monarch: Emir Of Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, Dies At 71

The Emir of Gusau, His Royal Highness Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71. He died on Friday, July 25, in Abuja after a prolonged illness.

The sad news was confirmed by Sulaiman Idis, spokesperson for Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, who released a heartfelt statement expressing the governor’s deep sorrow over the monarch’s passing.

Governor Lawal described the loss as deeply personal, referring to the Emir as a dependable royal father, a wise counselor, and a tireless advocate for the welfare of Zamfara State.

“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Emir’s family, the Gusau Emirate, and the people of the state,” the governor stated.

He praised the Emir’s 10 years on the throne, marked by unwavering dedication, strong leadership, and spiritual guidance.

“His passing is a tremendous loss, not just to Zamfara, but to Northern Nigeria and the entire nation. I have lost a father and a trusted advisor whose wisdom and guidance were truly invaluable,” Lawal added.

Praying for the Emir’s eternal rest, the governor said, “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”

Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the 16th Emir of Gusau, ascended the throne on March 16, 2015, following the death of his father. Prior to becoming Emir, he had a distinguished career as a civil servant, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary in both the former Sokoto State and later in Zamfara.

His legacy as a revered traditional ruler and public servant will long be remembered.
