NBA Vet Marcus Morris Sr. Arrested In Florida Over Bounced Check
Former NBA player Marcus Morris Sr., known for his time with multiple teams including the Phoenix Suns—where he played alongside his twin brother Markieff Morris—has been arrested in Florida on a fraud-related charge.
The 35-year-old veteran was taken into custody on Sunday, July 27, in Broward County for allegedly issuing a check with insufficient funds, according to arrest records cited by USA Today.
Markieff Morris addressed the arrest on social media, stating it happened at an airport and seemed to downplay the seriousness of the situation.
“The wording is crazy. Damn, for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Marcus Morris Sr. played for the Phoenix Suns from 2013 to 2015 before being traded to the Detroit Pistons. Over his 13-year NBA career, he also suited up for the Houston Rockets, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, and most recently, the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2023–24 season.
Off the court, Morris appeared as a guest analyst on ESPN during the last season.
This isn’t Morris' first brush with the law. Back in 2015, both he and Markieff were charged with aggravated assault in connection with the beating of a man outside a Phoenix basketball tournament. However, the twins and a third co-defendant were acquitted in 2017.
