Dele Momodu Alleges Wike Offered $30K Per Delegate In PDP Primaries
Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation International and a former presidential aspirant, has leveled explosive allegations against Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accusing him of offering $30,000 per delegate during the 2022 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries.
Both Momodu and Wike contested in the primaries, which eventually produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party's flagbearer.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television program aired Monday, July 7, Momodu revealed that a former Nigerian president had warned him not to bother contesting due to the scale of vote-buying allegedly orchestrated by Wike.
“A former president of Nigeria sent someone to tell me not to waste my money on the PDP 2022 primaries because Wike had raised the stakes to $30,000 per delegate—multiplied by 774 delegates, that's massive,” Momodu stated.
He condemned Wike for undermining the integrity of the primaries, saying, “If you’re going to run, run a fair race. Don’t destroy the spirit of the contest before it even begins.”
Momodu also criticized Wike’s behavior since joining President Bola Tinubu’s administration, claiming the former Rivers State governor has changed for the worse.
“When a man who used to be a nobody gets into power, he starts to change—slowly but surely,” he said.
Reflecting on Wike’s political rise under former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, Momodu remarked, “The oppressed often only respect their oppressors. Wike once respected only one man—Amaechi.”
The media mogul went further, accusing Wike of excessive drinking, and recounted a personal encounter where the minister introduced him to a strong alcoholic drink called Akeshi.
“Wike is consumed by power. Power and money, when not properly managed, can be demonic,” Momodu said. “He drinks early in the morning. He once gave me Akeshi and said it helps him function. This is someone holding public office.”
The allegations have sparked fresh controversy around Wike, who has remained a polarizing figure in Nigerian politics since his fallout with the PDP and alliance with the ruling APC.
