"We’re Not Elected To Fight" – Akpabio Defends Smooth Ties With Executive

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has stated that lawmakers were not elected to clash with the Executive arm of government but to collaborate on policies that drive national development.

Akpabio made this comment in a forthcoming documentary celebrating the two-year anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“When you’re elected into the National Assembly, whether it’s the Senate or the House of Representatives, your constituents don’t give you boxing gloves. It’s not a boxing ring,” he said. “You are there to work together, across party lines, in the best interest of Nigeria.”

He highlighted that the relationship between the legislature and the executive has been smooth over the past two years, attributing the cordial ties to a shared commitment to the country’s progress.

“If you spend all your energy fighting the Executive, who will be left to work for Nigeria?” he asked.
