UK Opens New Visa Application Centres In Enugu And Port Harcourt
The British High Commission in Nigeria has announced the opening of two new UK Visa Application Centres in Enugu and Port Harcourt, aimed at making travel to the UK even more accessible for Nigerians ahead of the busy summer season.
In a statement issued from Abuja, the Commission revealed that the new centres will allow applicants to submit documents and complete biometric enrolment closer to home — a welcome development for residents of Enugu and Rivers States.
These new Premium Application Centres, operated by VFS Global, join the existing facilities in Abuja and Lagos (Ikeja and Victoria Island). They are expected to help manage the growing demand for UK visas, especially during peak periods.
Lord David Hanson, Minister of State at the UK Home Office, confirmed the reopening of the Premium Visa Centres in Port Harcourt and Enugu, underlining their importance in response to the sharp increase in visa applications.
“In 2024, we received more than 230,000 visa applications from Nigerian nationals across all visa routes. These new centres will offer greater convenience for applicants and reflect the enduring strength of the UK–Nigeria relationship,” Hanson stated.
Alok Singhal, Head of Sub-Saharan Africa at VFS Global, assured that the new centres would uphold the high-quality service standards Nigerians have come to expect.
“We are pleased to open these conveniently located touchpoints, which allow us to cater to a larger number of UK-bound travellers from Nigeria,” he said.
Applicants using the new centres will also benefit from additional services, including assistance with document uploads, real-time application status updates, and courier delivery of documents. They can also opt for the "Keep My Passport While Applying" service, which lets them hold onto their passport after submitting their application and biometrics, only surrendering it once a decision is made.
VFS Global, which has partnered with UK Visas and Immigration since 2003, previously operated in 58 countries and, in 2023, was awarded a major contract to expand its services to 142 countries worldwide.
