Ten Inmates Still At Large After Mass Escape from New Orleans Jail

A major manhunt is underway in New Orleans after 11 inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Center, with only one recaptured as of Friday, according to Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson.

The escape was discovered during a routine headcount at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning. The inmates still on the run have been identified as Corey Boyd, Dkenan Dennis, Jermaine Donald, Derrick Groves, Keith Lewis, Antoine Massey, Robert Moody, Gary Price, Leo Tate, and Lenton Vanburen. The eleventh escapee, Kendell Myles, has already been caught.

Many of the escapees face serious charges, including murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, and false imprisonment with a weapon.

Myles, who had been charged with attempted second-degree murder, was found hiding under a car in a hotel parking garage after initially fleeing from state troopers. He was taken back into custody and rebooked on an additional charge of simple escape.

“Thank you to Troop NOLA for their diligence and speed in apprehending the first escapee,” said Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry. “To the other 10: YOU ARE NEXT!”

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill criticized the lapse in security, saying, “Someone clearly dropped the ball and there’s no excuse for this.”

Authorities have issued a public alert and are urging anyone with information about the fugitives to contact Crime Stoppers or call 911. The inmates are considered armed and dangerous.

“Our deputies, in collaboration with local and state law enforcement, are working tirelessly to locate and return the remaining individuals to custody,” the sheriff’s office said.

The incident remains under active investigation, and updates will follow as the search continues.
