“Duck Dynasty” Patriarch Phil Robertson Dies At 79: A Legacy Of Faith, Family, And The Outdoors
Phil Robertson, renowned outdoorsman, entrepreneur, and beloved patriarch of the family featured on A&E’s hit reality show Duck Dynasty, has passed away at the age of 79, his family confirmed in a heartfelt statement.
“We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord,” wrote daughter-in-law Korie Robertson in a post shared by the family.
“Thank you for the love and prayers of so many whose lives were touched by his story—redeemed by grace, anchored in bold faith, and driven by his passion to share the Good News of Jesus with anyone who would listen. We’re grateful for his life on earth and will carry on his legacy of love for God and others until we see him again,” the statement continued.
No official cause of death was given, but in a December episode of the family podcast, Phil’s son Jase Robertson revealed that his father had been in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
Phil Robertson was the founder of Duck Commander, a business known for producing duck calls and other duck hunting gear. The success of the company led to the creation of Duck Dynasty, a reality show that aired from 2012 to 2017 and chronicled the lives of the close-knit, bearded family behind the multi-million dollar sporting goods empire.
“In the duck hunting world, he was a trailblazer — a man deeply passionate about his craft, and even more passionate about his faith,” read a tribute on the Duck Commander Instagram page.
In 2013, Robertson made headlines after making controversial remarks about homosexuality during an interview with GQ Magazine, resulting in a temporary suspension from the show. The Robertson family acknowledged his comments as “coarse,” but within days, A&E resumed filming with the full cast, including Phil.
Following his passing, the official Duck Dynasty Facebook page released a statement: “We are saddened to hear of the passing of Phil Robertson, a hunting industry pioneer and the patriarch of the beloved Robertson family. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time. We extend our deepest condolences and ask for privacy as they grieve.”
The family also noted that while a private memorial is being held, a public celebration of Phil’s life will be announced soon. “We know so many of you loved him and were impacted by his life,” the family wrote.
Phil Robertson leaves behind a powerful legacy of faith, family, and fearless authenticity that resonated with millions across the world.
