Brazilian Nuns Go Viral with Joyful Beatbox And Dance On Live Catholic TV
Two Brazilian nuns have captured global attention after spontaneously breaking into beatboxing and dance during a Catholic television broadcast, delighting viewers and lighting up social media.
Sisters Marizele Cassiano and Marisa de Paula, members of the Copiosa Redenção congregation, were discussing an upcoming vocational retreat on Brazil’s Pai Eterno (Eternal Father) TV channel when they surprised the host — and the audience — with a lively musical interlude.
Midway through the conversation, the sisters stood up and launched into an animated routine complete with singing, beatboxing, and dance moves. The show’s presenter, Deacon Giovani Bastos, couldn’t resist joining in, mirroring their rhythm and movement in a moment that has since gone viral across Brazil and beyond.
“That moment was very spontaneous,” said Sister Marizele in an interview. “With Sister Marisa, if you start a beat, she will dance. And I’m used to singing and beatboxing, so it was simple and natural for us — but we were surprised it went viral internationally.”
The performance wasn’t just for fun. The sisters work closely with young people battling drug addiction and say that music has become a powerful bridge to connect with those they help.
“Beatboxing, dancing, and music are tools that God uses to reach the hearts of the people we serve. And it works! It’s beautiful to witness,” said Sister Marizele.
While Sister Marisa remains offline, Sister Marizele has gained a significant following since the video spread, now boasting over 100,000 followers on Instagram.
Both sisters also serve as vocation promoters, organizing retreats for women considering a religious life — and now doing so with a viral rhythm that’s bringing new energy to their ministry.
