Jacksonville Rapper Foolio Reportedly Killed In Sunday Morning Shooting

A Florida rapper who went by the stage name Julio Foolio was shot in a hotel parking lot in Tampa early Sunday morning, local station News4Jax first reported, in what his attorney described as an "ambush" after leaving a party for his 26th birthday.

Police responded to a shooting at a Holiday Inn in Tampa early Sunday and found Foolio, whose real name is Charles Jones, and three other people had been shot, NBC News reported.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene and the other three people were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Jones, who has 1 million followers on Instagram, had posted several times about a party he would be hosting Saturday night and told followers to private message him for the address.

Hours after the party began, and was documented on his Instagram, he posted party goers had been kicked out of their Airbnb.

He then went to the hotel where he was "basically ambushed" in the parking lot, his attorney told News4Jax.

Jones frequently rapped about murders involving rival gangs in Jacksonville, the local news station reported, and in April he posted that he had survived "multiple attempts" on his life.

31 million. That’s how many times Foolio’s most popular song on Spotify, “Voo Doo,” had been streamed as of Sunday. He had almost 1 million monthly listeners on the streaming service and other songs, like “Dead Opps Pt. 2” and “Play With Me” had between 13 and 17 million streams, respectively.

The shooting in Tampa was one of six mass shootings to be reported on Saturday and Sunday in the United States, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as an event in which at least four people, not including the shooter, are injured or killed. On Saturday, seven people were injured and one was killed in a shooting in Kentucky and six total people were shot—one killed—in a Mississippi shooting the same day. On Sunday, 10 people were shot and injured in Columbus, Ohio and police are still searching for a suspect. Six people, including two teenagers, were shot in a Rochester, New York park Sunday morning, while one person died, and five others were injured, in a shooting in downtown St. Louis.
