Israel Allegedly Used Fake Social Media Profiles To Influence U.S. Lawmakers' Support In Gaza Conflict

The Israeli government mounted an influence campaign to target U.S. lawmakers and the general public with messaging to gain their support for its conduct in the war in Gaza, the New York Times reported Wednesday.

Citing four unnamed officials, the Times report said the campaign was carried out by a political marketing firm in Tel Aviv on the orders of the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs.

The campaign reportedly relied on “hundreds of fake accounts posing as real Americans,” which posted pro-Israel content on multiple social media platforms including X, Facebook and Instagram.

This is a developing story.
