Soulja Boy Arrested In L.A. After Gun Found During Late-Night Traffic Stop
Rapper Soulja Boy was arrested early Sunday morning after Los Angeles police allegedly discovered a firearm during a late-night traffic stop.
According to law enforcement sources, the incident took place around 2:30 a.m. Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over by police. During the stop, officers are said to have spotted a firearm inside the car.
The 34-year-old artist was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what prompted the traffic stop or released details about the weapon. It remains unclear whether the driver or any other occupants were detained or implicated in the incident.
Ironically, just hours before his arrest, Soulja Boy had been interacting with fans on the TMZ Celebrity Tour in front of his Melrose Avenue store. He had also posted clips on social media from his birthday celebration at the upscale Los Angeles nightclub, Poppy, on Saturday night.
NBC Los Angeles was the first outlet to break the story. As of press time, Soulja Boy’s representatives have not responded to requests for comment.
