Beyoncé Nabs First Emmy for Netflix’s “Beyoncé Bowl” — Now Halfway to EGOT

Beyoncé can now add “Emmy winner” to her long list of accolades. The superstar, already the most decorated artist in Grammy history with 35 wins, just scored her first Emmy for Outstanding Costumes for a Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Show — thanks to her dazzling Western-themed “Beyoncé Bowl” halftime show on Netflix.

The special, filmed during the NFL’s Christmas Day game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans in her hometown of Houston, marked the live debut of songs from her Cowboy Carter album.

While Beyoncé has been nominated for 10 Emmys before, this marks her first victory — bringing her halfway to the coveted EGOT status. With Grammys and an Emmy now in hand, she still needs a Tony and an Oscar to join the exclusive club.

This win came as part of a batch of juried Emmys announced Tuesday — technical awards decided by committees rather than public voting. Usually reserved for behind-the-scenes talent, they rarely go to household names, making Beyoncé’s win all the more noteworthy.

The star could still add more trophies to her shelf next month. She’s nominated for Best Variety Special and Best Direction of a Variety Special for “Beyoncé Bowl.” And in a twist of showbiz drama, her husband Jay-Z is going head-to-head with her — competing as executive producer of Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show.

Looks like the only thing bigger than Beyoncé’s Emmy debut might be the friendly competition at home.
