62 Hostages Escape As Nigerian Air Force Pounds Bandits’ Camp In Katsina
At least 62 kidnapped persons, including women and children, have regained their freedom after a daring escape from a bandits’ camp, following a powerful airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in Katsina State.
The operation, carried out on Saturday, August 16, targeted the hideout of a notorious bandit kingpin, Muhammadu Fulani, in Jigawa Sawai community, Danmusa Local Government Area.
Confirming the development, Katsina State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Muazu, revealed that 12 of the rescued victims are currently receiving medical care at Matazu General Hospital, while 16 remain under the care of military operatives.
“The Katsina State Government confirms the escape of 62 kidnapped victims after the Nigerian Air Force launched a successful strike on the camp of a notorious bandit leader, Muhammadu Fulani,” Muazu said.
He explained that the air raid, launched at about 5:10 p.m., forced the armed gang to flee, giving the captives a rare chance to escape in different directions. Interviews with the victims confirmed that the bandits abandoned their camp in panic, leaving them free to run for safety.
Most of the victims were abducted on August 11 during a night raid on Sayaya village by Fulani’s gang, which has long terrorized Matazu, Kankia, Dutsinma, and parts of neighboring Kano State.
In response to persistent attacks in Matazu and Bakori, the government has now deployed the Quick Response Wing of the Nigerian Air Force to secure the troubled communities and sustain pressure on the bandits.
“Troops are closely monitoring the situation to ensure more rescues, and the security situation remains calm,” the Commissioner assured. “Families can rest assured that the victims will be reunited with their loved ones after completing medical examinations.”
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda commended the gallantry of the security forces and reaffirmed his administration’s determination to bring an end to banditry in Katsina.
