Di Canio Slams Atalanta’s €50M Price Tag For Lookman, Questions Player’s Attitude
Former Italy international Paolo Di Canio has hit out at Atalanta’s €50 million valuation of Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman, calling it excessive — and has also taken a swipe at the player’s professionalism.
Lookman has reportedly agreed personal terms with Inter Milan and is eager to make the switch to the San Siro. Inter’s opening €40 million bid was rejected, followed by a revised offer of €42 million plus €3 million in bonuses, which Atalanta also turned down. The Bergamo club remains firm on receiving the full €50 million, regardless of whether it comes through upfront payment or performance-related add-ons.
Speaking to Corriere Della Sera, Di Canio didn’t mince words:
> “In the Premier League, they don’t even really know who Lookman is. Asking €50 million for him is over the top. But Atalanta are just doing their job.”
The outspoken former forward went further, accusing Lookman of unprofessional conduct during the transfer saga:
> “The player is behaving badly. You have to train with your team even if you want to leave. Show some integrity and be professional. The Percassi family have done very well so far not to give in to his show of force.”
With both clubs refusing to budge, the standoff over Lookman’s future seems set to drag on — and Di Canio has made it clear who he thinks needs to rethink their approach.
