With more than 50 screen credits to her name — most of them in television — Raver was best known for her chilling performances in supernatural thrillers, most notably Sam Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell (2009) and Matthew Parkhill’s The Caller (2009).
In Drag Me to Hell, she portrayed the unforgettable Sylvia Ganush, an elderly woman who curses bank-loan officer Christine Brown (played by Alison Lohman), unleashing a chain of terrifying events. “What I liked about the character was that she was powerful,” Raver told author Jason Norman in his 2014 book Welcome to Our Nightmares.
Beyond the big screen, Raver left her mark on stage, voiced countless audiobook narrations, and played memorable roles on the long-running soap opera The Young and the Restless. Her final film appearance was in the 2013 drama Rushlights, after which she retired from acting in 2014.
Born in Pennsylvania, Raver was married to radio writer and producer Yuri Rasovsky from 1987 until his death in 2012. Her legacy as a powerhouse performer — especially in the horror genre — continues to haunt and inspire fans around the world.
