Louisiana Sues Roblox, Alleging Unsafe Environment For Children

Louisiana has filed a lawsuit against the popular online gaming platform Roblox, accusing it of fostering an environment where sexual predators “thrive, unite, hunt, and victimize kids.”

The suit, brought Thursday in state court by Attorney General Liz Murrill, claims Roblox has failed to implement adequate safety measures to protect minors from adult predators.

“Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana,” Murrill said in a statement. “Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety.”

Roblox, which has over 111 million monthly users, has faced repeated criticism and legal challenges over alleged child safety failures. In Iowa last month, a lawsuit claimed a 13-year-old girl met an adult predator on the platform, was kidnapped, trafficked across multiple states, and sexually assaulted.

Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said his department has handled multiple Roblox-related cases, including one in which a man allegedly used voice-altering technology to pose as a girl. No arrests have yet been made in those cases.

Murrill has called for Roblox to be shut down entirely.

Roblox says it has a “zero-tolerance policy for the exploitation of minors” and restricts younger users’ ability to chat outside of games without parental permission. The company also monitors private chats since they are not encrypted. However, Murrill argues the platform lacks robust age verification, allowing adults to pose as children.

In response to safety concerns, Roblox has been testing new age verification tools, including a video selfie requirement for teens ages 13 to 17 who wish to use “trusted connections” chat features. The company also said it is rolling out artificial intelligence systems to detect early signs of potential child exploitation. In the first half of 2025, Roblox reported sending 1,200 suspected cases to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
