Tragic Crash Claims Lives Of Eight Farmers In Niger State, Nigeria

In a tragic incident on the Batati/Lanle Road in Niger State, eight farmers lost their lives in a fatal collision. The accident, which occurred around 8 pm on Monday, involved a Toyota Corolla and a tanker trailer in a devastating head-on crash.

Reports indicate that the Toyota Corolla, reportedly speeding and attempting to overtake another vehicle, collided with an oncoming tanker destined for Lagos to load fuel. The victims, identified as farmers who had relocated from Niger Zone B to Dasu village in Lavun Local Government Area due to insecurity, were tragically crushed beyond recognition in the collision.

Witnesses described the scene as horrifying, with bodies of the victims, men of varying ages, completely mangled. An anonymous eyewitness recounted, "It was a terrible sight. The bodies were beyond recognition. Road Safety must intensify efforts to curb overspeeding and reckless overtaking on our roads."

Mohammed Sanusi, Assistant Commander of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria, Kutigi Branch, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. "I was shocked by the condition of the victims. Tears flowed uncontrollably. May God forgive their shortcomings," he lamented.

Sanusi praised the efforts of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Red Cross, and RTEAN personnel for their swift response in evacuating the bodies from the scene. The victims were laid to rest in Dasu village the following day.
