Australian Woman Charged With Poisoning Infant And Exploiting Videos Online

A 34-year-old woman from Australia’s Sunshine Coast has been charged with poisoning a one-year-old girl and allegedly exploiting videos of the child’s suffering to gain followers and solicit donations, according to Queensland Police.

Authorities claim the woman administered unauthorized prescription and pharmacy medications to the infant, who was known to her, without medical approval.

"It is further alleged that she disregarded medical advice and went to significant lengths to acquire unauthorized medicines, including repurposing outdated medications intended for another individual in her household," the police statement read.

The alleged poisoning occurred between August 6 and October 15, 2024, during which time the child endured significant distress and pain. Medical staff at a hospital where the child was treated raised concerns and alerted detectives, leading to an investigation.

Police also allege the woman filmed and posted videos of the child’s suffering online. The content, according to authorities, was used to exploit the child and attract monetary donations and social media followers.

Tests conducted on January 7 confirmed the presence of unauthorized medications, prompting the woman’s arrest.

She faces a range of charges, including five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparing to commit crimes with dangerous substances, and single counts of torture, making child exploitation material, and fraud.

Detective Inspector Paul Dalton of the Morningside Child Protection and Investigation Unit emphasized the gravity of the case, noting the unit’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children.

"We will do everything in our power to remove that child from harm’s way and hold any offender to account," Dalton stated. "There is no justification for harming a child, particularly an infant who depends entirely on others for care and survival."

The woman appeared before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday and was remanded in custody until her next court appearance on January 28.
