Cheryl Cole Pays Heartfelt Tribute To Liam Payne, Urges Sensitivity In Coverage Of His Passing

Cheryl Cole, former partner of Liam Payne, shared an emotional tribute on Friday following the tragic death of the singer. In her statement, she pleaded for sensitivity in how his passing is reported, emphasizing the need for compassion during such a devastating time.

Cole, a recording artist and former judge on the UK’s "The X Factor," was in a relationship with Payne from 2016 to 2018. The couple welcomed their son, Bear, in 2017.

“As I try to navigate this earth-shattering event and work through my own grief during this indescribably painful time, I kindly remind everyone that we have lost a human being,” Cole began her post, which featured a touching photo of Liam and their son. “Liam was not just a pop star and celebrity. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend, and a father to our 7-year-old son. A son who now has to face the reality of never seeing his father again.”

Cole and Payne were dedicated co-parents, and Payne had openly expressed his admiration for Cole and his deep affection for Bear. In a 2023 YouTube video, Payne spoke fondly about his son, saying, "He’s awesome. He’s growing up far too quickly. He’s far smarter than I think I’ll ever be. He’s a wonder.”

In her tribute, Cole also voiced concern about the impact media coverage of Payne’s death might have on their son in the future.

“What troubles my spirit the most is that one day Bear will have access to the abhorrent reports and media exploitation we’ve seen in the past two days. It breaks my heart further that I can’t protect him from that in his future. I beg you to consider what purpose some of these reports serve, other than causing more harm to those left behind, picking up the pieces.”

Liam Payne tragically passed away on Wednesday after falling from the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was 31 years old. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of his fall as more details emerge.

Cole concluded her heartfelt message with a final plea for respect and privacy. “Before you leave comments or make videos, ask yourself if you would want your own child or family to read them. Please, give Liam the little dignity he has left in the wake of his death, so he may rest in some peace at last.”

Payne's death has left a profound impact on his loved ones, with Cole’s words serving as a powerful reminder of the importance of kindness and empathy during times of grief.
