US Embassy In Nigeria Introduces Two-Step Visa Process Starting 2025
The United States Embassy in Nigeria has announced significant changes to its immigrant visa process, set to take effect on January 1, 2025.
In a statement posted on its official X page on Tuesday, December 10, the embassy outlined a new procedure requiring applicants with scheduled interviews to visit the Consulate General in Lagos twice during the visa process.
The statement read:
“For applicants with interviews scheduled after January 1, 2025, you are required to visit the Consulate General in Lagos at least twice during the immigrant visa process.
“This new process is designed to help you prepare for your visa interview and to prevent significant delays in processing your immigrant visa.”
According to details on the embassy’s website, the first visit will involve an In-Person Document Review with a consular staff member. This step aims to ensure that all necessary documents are in order ahead of the visa interview.
The second visit will consist of the visa interview itself, conducted by a Consular Officer. The National Visa Center (NVC) will schedule the date for this interview.
The embassy emphasized that the document review process allows applicants to identify and address any missing documentation, reducing potential delays in the overall application process.
Applicants are cautioned to complete the In-Person Document Review before their scheduled visa interview. Failure to do so will result in the need to reschedule their appointments.
This streamlined approach is designed to enhance preparation and improve the efficiency of the immigrant visa application process.
