Tragedy In The Skies: Passenger Plane Crash In Kazakhstan Leaves 25 Survivors

A passenger plane carrying 67 people from Azerbaijan to southern Russia crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau on Wednesday, according to local authorities.

Miraculously, at least 25 people survived the crash, though 22 of them were hospitalized with injuries.

The aircraft, Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2-8243, was en route from the Azerbaijani capital of Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya region when it was forced to make an emergency landing roughly 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) from Aktau.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that rescue teams found the aircraft engulfed in flames upon arrival.

“Rescue units began extinguishing the fire. Information about the victims is being clarified, and preliminary reports confirm survivors,” the ministry said in a statement.

The plane carried 62 passengers and 5 crew members, according to a preliminary report from Kazakhstan’s transport ministry. The passengers included 37 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russians, six Kazakhs, and three Kyrgyz nationals.

Azerbaijan Airlines stated that further details about the incident would be shared with the public, posting updates on their official Facebook page.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, while emergency responders and medical teams work to support the survivors.
