Pep Guardiola's Last Hurrah: Manchester City To Be His Final Managerial Stop

Pep Guardiola has officially declared that Manchester City will be the final club he manages in his illustrious career.

The legendary Spanish coach has spent over eight-and-a-half years at the helm of Manchester City, during which he has secured six Premier League titles and numerous other trophies. Last month, Guardiola extended his contract until 2027, ensuring his reign with the four-time consecutive league champions surpasses a decade.

In a candid interview with Spanish chef Dani García, Guardiola shared his future plans, revealing he has no intention of managing another team once he leaves City.

"I'm not going to manage another team," he said. "I'm not talking about the long-term future, but what I'm not going to do is leave Man City, go to another country, and repeat what I'm doing now.

"I need to stop, like chefs who take a break to reflect on their craft. When you're constantly working, you don’t have the time to evaluate what you’ve done well and what you could improve. I want to stop and play golf—but not yet. I believe taking a break would do me good."

Guardiola also gave a glimpse into his post-football ambitions, emphasizing his desire to focus on personal growth and hobbies.

"When I stop, I want to do several things," he said. "One of them is to learn French, dedicate more time to myself, play golf, and learn how to cook simple dishes."

While reflecting on his managerial journey, Guardiola admitted the challenges of dealing with setbacks in football, such as City’s recent 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, which dented their title hopes.

"The hardest part of defeat is the loneliness," he confessed. "You have people around you, but the bad decisions—why I made them, why it went wrong—those thoughts are yours alone. When you close the bedroom door and turn off the light, there’s no consolation. You have to let a day or two pass and then start again."

For Guardiola, golf serves as a mental escape. "One of the best therapies I have is watching golf tournaments, like the Augusta Masters. While preparing for matches at home or in Tast [Guardiola’s Spanish restaurant in Manchester], I always have golf on in the background."

As Guardiola eyes the twilight of his managerial career, he continues to leave an indelible mark on football while planning a fulfilling life beyond the game.
