In a devastating incident in Santo Domingo, the roof of the Jet Set nightclub collapsed during a performance by merengue singer Rubby Pérez, claiming the lives of at least 79 people and injuring over 150 others. Among those lost were longtime MLB pitcher Octavio Dotel and former player Tony Blanco, marking a somber day for the baseball community and the Dominican Republic.
