Oyo State's Former Governor, Chief Omololu Olunloyo, Dies Just Days Before 90th Birthday
The former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Omololu Olunloyo, has passed away at the age of 89, just days shy of his 90th birthday.
The esteemed statesman, a respected mathematician, engineer, and technocrat, died in the early hours of Sunday, April 6. His death was confirmed through a heartfelt statement issued by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi, who expressed the family's sorrow while honoring Olunloyo’s legacy of service.
“With heavy hearts and gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former Governor of Oyo State, mathematician, engineer, and renowned technocrat, just days before his 90th birthday,” the statement read.
A highly revered figure, Olunloyo held prestigious chieftaincy titles such as Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife. His contributions to both academia and public service were vast, as he served as the first Rector of both Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic, among numerous other distinguished roles throughout his career.
“The Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, Dr. Olunloyo, was the first Rector of Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic, and held several notable appointments,” the statement further stated.
Olunloyo’s lifelong dedication to the nation and humanity remains a point of pride for his family and colleagues, even as they cope with this profound loss. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
“The Olunloyo family kindly asks for the understanding of the press and the public as they make arrangements for his dignified burial,” the statement concluded.
