DJ Switch Challenges Nigerian Leaders Amid Nationwide Hunger Protests

Famous Nigerian DJ and activist, Obianuju Catherine, popularly known as DJ Switch, has thrown down the gauntlet to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, and former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, amidst the ongoing nationwide hunger protests.

The 10-day protests, tagged ‘EndBadGovernance,’ which spotlight Nigeria’s economic woes, kicked off on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

Before the demonstrations began, Asari Dokubo warned organizers against bringing the protest to his region, claiming their agenda doesn't address local issues. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike also threatened to keep Abuja off-limits for protesters. During a security council meeting in Abuja on the first day of the protests, Wike stated that intelligence reports suggested protesters intended to destroy property.

Reacting to Wike and Dokubo’s claims over the weekend, DJ Switch, known for her outspoken activism, challenged both men to face the protesters publicly if they were not afraid. As one of the organizers of the 2020 EndSARS protests, DJ Switch took to social media to emphasize that food, not violence or threats, is the solution to the people's hunger.

She tweeted, "The only thing that can stop HUNGER is FOOD! Not guns, teargas, or threats from fat globs like Asari Dokubo and chicken feed Wike! I wonder why they are hiding now. Come outside, let them eat you raw."
