Richard Simmons' Cause of Death Revealed: A Life of Joy Remembered

The brother of the late fitness icon Richard Simmons has revealed the cause of his death.

"Richard's death was accidental, resulting from complications due to recent falls, with heart disease as a contributing factor. The toxicology report was negative, showing only the presence of prescribed medication," said Thomas Estey, Simmons' representative, in a statement to *People*, citing information from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

"The family wishes to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support during this time of great loss," Estey's statement concluded.

The full coroner’s report is not yet publicly available.

Richard Simmons, the beloved fitness personality and '80s TV staple, passed away early on Saturday morning, July 13, just one day after celebrating his 76th birthday. "We lost an Angel today—a true Angel," Estey told CNN at the time.

Shortly after his death, reports emerged that Simmons had fallen in his bathroom on his birthday night but declined medical attention despite his housekeeper's urging. He was found unresponsive beside his bed the following morning.

Lenny Simmons, Richard's brother, also paid tribute in a statement shared with CNN last month.

"I don’t want people to be sad about my brother. I want them to remember him for the genuine joy and love he brought to people’s lives," Lenny wrote. "He truly cared about people. He called, wrote, and emailed thousands of people throughout his career to offer help. So don’t be sad. Celebrate his life."

Lenny also mentioned that Richard was "very excited about all of his upcoming ventures he was working on."
