Explosion Rocks APP Secretariat In Rivers State, Nigeria Amid Political Tensions
An explosion has rocked the Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) in Rivers State, causing significant damage to the opposition party's property.
Eyewitnesses report that the explosion, caused by a detonated dynamite, occurred around 1 a.m. on Monday, August 12. The blast was so loud that it echoed throughout the area, leaving behind a scene of destruction.
Several valuable items, including tables, chairs, and important files, were destroyed in the blast. The windows and doors were shattered, walls heavily cracked, and floors damaged, leaving the office in ruins.
This incident is believed to be linked to the ongoing leadership crisis in the state. There are rumors that Governor Siminialayi Fubara is planning to defect to the APP, along with his supporters, following the alleged takeover of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State by his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
A member of the APP, who identified himself simply as Chimene, confirmed the incident to journalists. "Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack around 3 a.m. today," he stated.
He further added, "This is politically motivated, without a doubt. They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits."
