Elon Musk Slams Trump’s Spending Bill As “Disgusting Abomination”

Elon Musk unleashed a scathing critique of President Donald Trump’s latest domestic agenda bill on Tuesday, calling the sweeping spending package a “disgusting abomination” and warning it pushes the country closer to financial ruin.

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk posted on X. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

He followed up with a blunt warning: “Congress is making America bankrupt.”

The tech magnate’s comments come amid growing conservative backlash against the legislation, which Trump is pressuring Republican senators to support. The bill, packed with spending provisions, has drawn criticism for expanding the deficit and including what critics describe as unnecessary “pork-barrel” funding.

Musk, who until recently held a temporary advisory role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency, has repeatedly spoken out against the bill. Following its passage in the House, he expressed disappointment during an interview, arguing the legislation “increases the budget deficit, not reduces it,” and undermines broader government reform efforts.

At a press briefing Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed Musk’s remarks. “Look, the president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill,” she said. “It doesn’t change the president’s opinion — this is one big, beautiful bill and he is sticking to it.”

Musk officially left his advisory role on Friday, just days before his latest public comments.

Not long after Musk’s post, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) echoed his concerns. “We can and must do better,” Paul wrote on X. “We’ve both seen the massive waste in government spending, and we know another $5 trillion in debt is a huge mistake.”

Paul has been among the most vocal Republican critics of the bill in the Senate. He confirmed that he had a “lengthy discussion” with Trump earlier this week and made clear that he cannot support the bill if it includes a debt ceiling increase.

“It’s just not a conservative thing to do,” Paul said. “I told him I can’t support the bill if they are together. If they were to separate out and take the debt ceiling off, I very much could consider the rest of the bill.”

Despite the pushback, Trump has been actively working to rally support, including private calls with skeptical senators like Paul. Senate leaders are aiming to finalize the bill in time to place it on the president’s desk by July 4 — an ambitious goal given the fractures within the GOP.

While Musk’s influence on legislative outcomes may be limited now that he’s out of government, his public criticism adds fuel to the conservative revolt building around the bill — and underscores a deepening rift between fiscal hawks and Trump’s expansive domestic spending ambitions.
