Bullet Strikes Southwest Plane On Texas Tarmac—Chaos And Questions Follow

In a shocking incident at Dallas Love Field Airport, a Southwest Airlines flight preparing for takeoff was struck by a bullet on Friday night, sending passengers and authorities into a frenzy.  

What Happened?  

Flight 2494, bound for Indianapolis, was moments away from departure when gunfire hit the Boeing 737-800 Max aircraft. According to a Southwest spokesperson, the bullet struck the right side of the plane near the cockpit, under the flight deck.  

Thankfully, none of the 99 passengers or crew onboard were injured. The plane immediately returned to its gate, and all passengers were safely deplaned.  

Immediate Response  

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Dallas police are leading the investigation into the incident, which temporarily closed one of the airport’s runways.  

Police responded to reports of gunfire at 9:48 PM local time (3:48 AM GMT Saturday). Preliminary information suggests the shooting may have been the result of random gunfire, though no official details have been confirmed.  

Passengers Left in Limbo  

Southwest Airlines has pledged to accommodate all affected passengers on other flights, but the incident has left many rattled. One can only imagine the shock and confusion of those onboard when they learned of the near-tragedy.  

Context: A Worrying Trend?  

While rare, this is not the first instance of aircraft being struck by gunfire. Just days earlier, three planes in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, were hit during takeoffs and landings as gang violence escalated in the region. In response, the FAA issued a 30-day ban on U.S. airlines flying to Haiti.  

The Dallas incident, though unrelated, underscores growing concerns about the safety of airports and their surrounding areas.
