Oprah's Cinematic Journey and Health Revelation: No Beyoncé or Rihanna, but a Star-Studded Cast

Oprah Winfrey recently shared insights into the making of her upcoming film, *The Color Purple*, revealing the pressure to cast A-listers like Beyoncé or Rihanna. The media icon, now 69, disclosed that such casting suggestions intensified as the film's budget soared to $90 to $100 million.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Winfrey, who played Sofia in the 1985 film adaptation, emphasized the significance of the cast, stating, "Once the film moved to $90 to $100 million, then everybody wants us to bring Beyoncé. 'Can you get Beyoncé or can you get Rihanna?'" Despite the pressures, she stood firm, asserting, "There are other actors who can do this job."

The talk show host recounted sitting in a room where the names of global superstars were tossed around. She noted, "I do remember conversations about, ‘Y’all, Beyoncé is going to be busy this year.’ It wasn’t even a negotiation, because you’re not getting Beyoncé." Rihanna, too, was occupied with giving birth to two boys, managing a Super Bowl halftime show, and headlining her career.

Ultimately, Winfrey secured a remarkable cast, including Danielle Brooks, Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Colman Domingo, and Halle Bailey, among others. The film, hitting theaters on December 25, 2023, promises a captivating cinematic experience.

This revelation comes on the heels of Oprah's candid discussion about her weight-loss journey. Previously critical of weight-loss medications, she shared a recent shift in perspective. Winfrey admitted to using Ozempic, shedding 40 pounds in recent months. She expressed relief at having a medically approved tool for managing weight without the stigma.

The broadcast icon, who underwent knee surgery in 2021, embarked on a holistic health journey, incorporating principles like eating her last meal at 4 pm, drinking a gallon of water daily, and adopting WeightWatchers' point system. Regular hikes and an overall fitness routine became integral to maintaining her weight loss.

Addressing societal expectations and the shame associated with weight, Oprah emphasized the importance of acceptance and support from friends and partners. She called for embracing diverse body choices and shared her frustration with the persistent stigma surrounding weight issues.

In a powerful conclusion, Winfrey expressed her weariness with societal shaming and disclosed her decision to consult a doctor for weight loss medication after releasing her own shame. Her journey, both in the film industry and personal wellness, reflects resilience and a commitment to authenticity.
