Eric Bailly's Turbulent Turkish Odyssey: From Curse Threats to Contract Termination

Former Manchester United defender Eric Bailly recently experienced a rollercoaster of events, culminating in the termination of his contract with Turkish club Besiktas. The Ivory Coast international, who left Old Trafford in September after a loan spell with Marseille, saw his stint with the Premier League giants come to an end.

In November, Bailly found himself in a heated altercation with teammate Tayfur Bingol during Besiktas' league clash at Antalyaspor, leading to his substitution at halftime. The month unfolded with only 27 more minutes of play for Bailly before December brought a string of misfortunes.

Reports from the Daily Mirror suggested that a curse had been cast on Bailly, allegedly related to unpaid fees from his transfer to Besiktas. Messages on WhatsApp forewarned him, and subsequent events, including giving away a penalty, seemed to validate the curse.

Amid the turmoil, Bailly's agent and uncle, Severin Bohui, revealed ongoing threats and blackmail from an individual claiming financial entitlement. Despite no intermediation contract, the agent insisted on payment, escalating the situation into a security concern rather than a FIFA matter.

In early December, Besiktas exiled Bailly along with four other senior players, citing team compatibility issues and poor performances. Despite arguments that injuries had affected his form, the exile persisted for less than three weeks before Besiktas terminated Bailly's contract, stating a mutual agreement.

Besiktas' curt statement read, 'The contract with Eric Bailly, the player of our first team, has been terminated by mutual agreement. We wish Eric Bailly success in his career. Regards. Besiktas JK.'

Bailly's troubled time in Turkey, marked by injuries to his hamstring, neck, and shoulder, contrasted with his initial promising start in the Conference League. Rumors now link him to a possible return to LaLiga side Villarreal, where manager Marcelino is reportedly eager to secure his signature, indicating a potential new chapter for the Ivorian defender.
