Kelly Clarkson Reveals Thyroid Issue & Discusses 37-Pound Weight Loss on 'Today'
Kelly Clarkson Performs On NBC's Today at Rockefeller Plaza on June 8, 2018 in New York City.
Not only did Kelly Clarkson rock the stage Friday morning (June 8) at Rockefeller Plaza, but she also opened up about why she's been sporting a slimmer figure recently.
Co-hosting the 10 a.m. hour of Today with friend Hoda Kotb, the two indulged in some wine while Kotb inquired about Clarkson's noticeably thinner frame. Clarkson has been in and out of headlines over the past few years due to her fluctuating weight.
In typical Clarkson fashion, the vocal powerhouse joked: "You know what? I don't work out. I mean, I should, because of your heart and stuff. But I do wine instead!"

Kotb wasn't going to let that one go without further inquiring, "What's the secret? We want to know," to which Kelly responded honestly, "I read this book that was given to me years ago, and I was just like, 'Whatever, another book,' because I had this autoimmune disease and a thyroid problem. I read this book called The Plant Paradox, and it might not work for everyone; it worked for me."
Was weight loss a side effect? Yep. "Thirty-seven pounds," Clarkson revealed to a noticeably shocked Kotb. "That's not even the best part: I mean, I know the industry loves the weight gone, but for me, I am not on my medicine anymore. I haven't been on my medicine since February."
In reference to her diet, Clarkson said what she eats hasn't changed, but the ingredients have. "It's understanding what we do to food, like spraying and pesticides and genetically modified and hormones we pump in. It [The Plant Paradox] is also about how pharmaceuticals have ruined our body. I don't take medicine unless I absolutely need it."
On Thursday, Extra published an interview with the original American Idol winner, in which she reiterated: "I'm not working out! I think people think I'm working out and I'm like, 'Don't think I'm coming to play some sport!'"
