Kogi Police Urge Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan To Cancel Sallah Visit Over Security Concerns

The Kogi State Police Command has urged Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan to cancel her planned Sallah visit to the Central Senatorial District of Kogi State, citing security concerns.

State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, issued the directive in a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya.

According to the statement, the police chief emphasized that the rally violates the state government's recent ban on political gatherings, which was announced on Monday, March 31.

The statement reads:

“Following intelligence reports indicating security threats in Kogi State and the subsequent ban on all rallies and processions by the state government, the Kogi State Police Command has called on the organizers of the planned rally in Okene to cancel the event in the interest of public peace.

Intelligence suggests that certain hoodlums are planning to hijack the event and disrupt the peace. The Command is committed to maintaining the existing stability in the state and cannot allow any activity that might jeopardize public order.

In light of the security threat surrounding the rally, the Kogi State Police Command strongly advises the organizers to call off the event to prevent any breakdown of law and order. The Command will not hesitate to enforce the full weight of the law on anyone who disturbs the peace.”

Despite the state government's ban on political gatherings, Senator Akpoti-Uduagan remains defiant, insisting that her visit is purely a “homecoming” to celebrate Eid-al-Fitr with her constituents.
