Zelensky’s Plea: “No Decisions About Ukraine Without Ukraine”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky issued a firm warning ahead of expected talks with U.S. Vice President JD Vance, insisting that any discussions about Ukraine’s future must include Ukraine itself.
Speaking at the Munich Security Conference in Germany, Zelensky made it clear that his country would not accept being sidelined in negotiations.
“I think what is very important is the meeting—not to make any decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine,” Zelensky said on Friday. “We will never accept it, and I’m not just speaking about me.”
A Call for Pressure on Putin
Zelensky also stressed the need for continued pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling for stronger sanctions and emphasizing the role the U.S. could play in enforcing them.
“It is very important for me to pressure Putin. Put all the sanctions—I think President Trump is ready to do that. He has all this power to do that,” Zelensky stated.
Reiterating his commitment to direct engagement with Washington, he expressed a willingness to visit the U.S. at any time.
“That is why I wanted very much to come to Washington, any day.”
Uncertainty Surrounding U.S. Policy
Zelensky’s comments reflect growing concerns in Kyiv that the U.S. may move forward with negotiations that do not fully account for Ukraine’s interests. Recent statements from American officials have signaled shifting positions on key issues, including Ukraine’s NATO ambitions and territorial integrity.
As high-stakes discussions loom, Zelensky’s message remains clear: Ukraine must have a seat at the table in shaping its own future.
