NY Gov. Kathy Hochul signaled she is considering the 'serious step' of removing New York Mayor Eric Adams from office amid turmoil in the city's government.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul will meet with “key leaders” in the New York City government on Tuesday to discuss the future of Mayor Eric Adams’ administration after four of its top officials resigned following accusations of Adams’ trading cooperation with President Donald Trump’s deportation efforts in exchange for the dropping of federal corruption charges against him.

Earlier on Monday, four key New City government officials—First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer and Deputy Mayors Meera Joshi, Anne Williams-Isom and Chauncey Parker—announced they would be stepping down from their roles.

Hochul said Monday night she had spoken with the deputy mayors and thanked them for the service, but said their exits raised “serious questions about the long-term future of this Mayoral administration.”

Hochul then indicated she was considering taking the “serious step” of using the constitutional powers granted to her by the state to remove Adams from office.

The governor noted that “overturning the will of the voters” cannot be taken lightly, but the “conduct at City Hall” reported over the past two weeks was “troubling and cannot be ignored.”

She added that she has asked key New York City leaders to “meet me at my Manhattan office for a conversation about the path forward.”
