New York Mayor Eric Adams To Approve NYC Guinea Pig Ban

New york mayor #EricAdams plans to sign a bill banning the sale of guinea pigs in the boroughs after city lawmakers approved the measure last week.

The pet peeve comes a month after Adams appointed a new well-paid rat czar to try to eradicate the vermin from New York.

Councilmembers approved the guinea pig ban after some 600 of the pets were surrendered to overburdened city animal shelters last year, according to December testimony from Alexandra Silver, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Animal Welfare.

Guinea pigs live for up to ten years, and there are a “very limited number of veterinarians” in the city that know how to neuter and spay them, Silver said.

“This common-sense legislation protects the wellbeing of guinea pigs and can also help lessen the burden on our animal shelters,” a spokesperson from the mayor’s office told The Post Tuesday.
