'He Had An Open Book Test And Still Failed The Exam': Man United Fans Are Stunned After David De Gea Is Seen Reading A Cheat Sheet Before Their Penalty Shootout Win Over Brighton - But Still Didn't Save A Single Spot Kick!
David de Gea was seen reading a cheat sheet before Manchester United's penalty shootout win against Brighton on Sunday
Manchester United fans were left baffled by David de Gea after the goalkeeper was seen reading a set of notes before their penalty shootout win over Brighton - but still failed to make a single save.
The Red Devils were made to work for their spot in the FA Cup final against the Seagulls as both sides could not be separated after 120 minutes, with Roberto de Zerbi's men missing a host of chances to score at Wembley.
And at the end of normal time it was a chance for De Gea to step up and be a hero.
While relieved to see the team get over the line, United fans were still left stumped after the shootout win that De Gea's notes didn't manage to have any impact at all.
One fan joked: 'De Gea had an open book test and still failed the test. He didn't save even one penalty after all the notes he was given.'
Another wrote: 'Does De Gea just dive the opposite way after reading all of his notes or what? Maybe he doesn’t know his left and right?'
'How's De Gea reading the notes on his bottle but still not save a penalty?' another supporter questioned.
And one simply was forced to see the funny side, writing: 'De Gea going the wrong way every time immediately after checking notes is cracking me up.'
United fans have been frustrated with De Gea's ability at saving penalties in the past, having also failed to make a single save as they were beaten in a shootout by Villarreal in the 2021 Europa League final.
De Gea also had a cheat sheet at the time, yet failed to go the way he was instructed to in the crucial kicks on a handful of occasions as the LaLiga side won 11-10.
United players did their best to motivate De Gea during the shootout against Brighton, with Casemiro seen dancing around on the halfway line to give him advice.
Casemiro volunteered to take United's first penalty and coolly dispatched his effortt.
But the midfielder didn't simply score his effort and relax on the halfway line as others made the long walk to the penalty spot.
Luckily for De Gea, he didn't need to make a save as Solly March blasted over to ensure United won 7-6 to reach the FA Cup final against Man City
Instead he decided to offer United goalkeeper David de Gea some advice, in the hope that it would help him distract Brighton's penalty-takers.
Originally locked arm-in-arm with Marcus Rashford - who also scored - Casemiro jumped away from his team-mates before shouting to catch De Gea's attention.
He then jumped around waving his arms in an apparent attempt to show the shot-stopper how to move between the goal as Brighton's takers stepped up.
The ever-energetic Brazilian shook his arms wildly, kicked his legs out in various directions, and bounced side-to-side as De Gea watched on.
