Somalia is set to finally take legal action against female genital mutilation.
According to fresh reports, a high profile FGM case that caused nationwide uproar will make the country’s first ever prosecution.
Deeqa Dahir Nuur, a 10 year old girl died after a nerve was severed by local cutters on the 17th of July. Deeqa bled out two days later in a hospital.
CNN reports that Somalia’s deputy Prime Minister, Mahdi Mohamed Guuled in a conference organized by Global Media Campaign to End FGM on Wednesday confirmed that the perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law. While Somalia currently has no law against FGM, Guuled confirmed that they will try the suspects using existing laws.

This is an historic moment for ending FGM in Somalia. This cannot be happening in our country in the 21st century. It is not part of our religion, and it will not be part of our culture.
Further reports from the doctor who tried to save Deeqa’s life shared with CNN  that she suffered the “most extreme form of FGM he had ever seen”.
Doctor Abdirahman Omar Hassan revealed:
“Her whole female genital tract had been removed, the labia and the clitoris had been cut off, it’s type 4 FGM.
 She was brought in two days after they cut her, she was already infected with tetanus. I have never seen this kind of mutilation. And I have treated many bad FGM cases here because it is so common. She was bleeding and convulsing. We tried to save her, but she died an hour later.”

Characters In BBC’s Documentary On TB Joshua Unknown To Us – Synagogue Church

  The Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN) has countered the BBC documentary on the late Temitope Babatunde Joshua, known as TB Joshua, founder of SCOAN. SCOAN described the documentary against TB Joshua as unfounded, and that the characters interviewed in the report were unknown to the church. The church, in a statement signed by its Public Affairs Director, Mr Dare Adejumo, said the statement was aimed at disabusing public minds from the report. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the BBC released a highly controversial and damning documentary on the late TB Joshua on Monday, accusing him of various crimes, including rape, against some members. SCOAN said, “BBC World Services investigative unit, code-named Africa Eye, came out this week with weird and strange episodes of atrocities against the late founder of SCOAN.” It said that to investigate and publish or broadcast reports was a central kernel of journalism, but to do so outside the ethics and fundamental principles

NBA Suspends Canada’s Joshua Primo For 4 Games For Exposing Himself To Women

  The NBA has suspended former San Antonio Spurs guard  Joshua Primo   for four games   ... after it says it found he exposed his private parts to multiple women. The league announced the ban on Friday morning ... saying an investigation into the free agent revealed he had "engaged in inappropriate and offensive behavior." NBA officials called his actions "conduct detrimental to the league." They did, however, note that they "did not find evidence that he engaged in any sexual or other misconduct apart from these brief exposures." "Primo maintains that his conduct was not intentional," the league said.
