France’s Benjamin Pavard has emerged as the winner of the 2018 World Cup Goal of the Tournament.
FIFA had asked that fans select their favourite goal in the tournament, with Ahmed Musa‘s goal making the shortlist.
Pavard scored a screamer in France’s match against Argentina in the Round of 16, a goal fans have voted as the best goal.
The goal levelled the match to 2-2, although France ended up winning the 4-3 tie.
Pavard, talking to FIFA about the goal, said:
The ball bounced up as it came to me. I didn’t even think about it. I just tried to get over it and keep it down.

ISWAP Insurgents Assassinate Village Head In Borno State, Nigeria

Suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly killed the traditional ruler of Kinnari, a remote village in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State. The brutal attack took place on the night of Friday, August 1, around 9:00 p.m., when the insurgents stormed the village and gunned down the 65-year-old village head, Goni Kinnari, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama. Following the incident, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, swiftly mobilised to the area and successfully repelled the attackers. The remains of the slain traditional leader were evacuated to the General Hospital in Damasak, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
