While he affirmed his support for Doge’s broader goals, Trump made it clear that cabinet secretaries would now hold the final decision-making power, with Musk’s team relegated to an advisory role. “As the secretaries learn about, and understand, the people working for the various departments, they can be very precise as to who will remain, and who will go,” Trump stated on Truth Social, urging his team to use a “scalpel” instead of a “hatchet.”

This latest directive marks a potential pivot from Musk’s earlier, more aggressive approach—symbolized by his recent appearance wielding a shiny chainsaw at a conservative conference—to a more measured strategy.
