Sky Sports' On-Air Mix-Up: Chelsea Players Mistakenly Introduced as Axel Disasi Instead of Noni Madueke in Carabao Cup Semifinal

Sky Sports were left red-faced after an on-screen graphic mistakenly introduced Chelsea defender Axel Disasi as Noni Madueke on Tuesday night.

The pair were both the scoresheet as the Blues thrashed Middlesbrough 6-1 at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final to boo their place at Wembley.

But when Disasi spoke to Sky Sports after the game, an on-screen graphic introduced him as Madueke instead.

Madueke is four years younger than his Chelsea teammate, plays in a different role and is English, while Disasi is French.

Viewers immediately spotted the mistake and took to social media to flag up the glaring error.

Sky Sports with a huge mistake as that is Axel Disasi, not Noni Madueke,' another added, while a third described the gaffe as a 'howler'.

A fourth commented: 'Sky sports calling Disasi Madueke. They’ve done it again.'

Disasi scored Chelsea's third goal in the 6-1 rout, converting Raheem Sterling's cross at the far post after the Blues counterattacked following a mistake from Middlesbrough centre-back Matt Clarke.

Earlier, Disasi and Sterling had combined to set up Enzo Fernandez's goal as the hosts took the lead on aggregate just 29 minutes into the second leg after the Argentine swept home the Frenchman's cross.

A half-time substitute for the ineffective Mykhailo Mudryk, Madueke completed the rout as he scored Chelsea's sixth nine minutes before the end, smashing the ball past Boro keeper Tom Glover helped by a deflection off Rav Van der Berg.

Chelsea will now face either Liverpool or Fulham in the final at Wembley on February 25 and have the chance to win a first silverware under Mauricio Pochettino in an otherwise largely forgettable season.

'I’m desperate to win a trophy here,' the Blues boss said.

'We won in three trophies in one and a half years at Paris [Saint-Germain] and we want to win here.

'I’m desperate to win. That is the headline.

'It’s really important for us, we’re going to have Fulham or Liverpool, two amazing teams, it will be difficult. But now is the moment to believe we can win.'
