Hamas Deputy Head Assassinated in Beirut Airstrike

Hamas announced on Tuesday that Saleh Al Arouri, one of its senior officials, fell victim to a lethal attack in southern Beirut, Lebanon. Al Aqsa TV, a Hamas media outlet, reported that Al Arouri was "martyred in a treacherous Zionist airstrike in Beirut."

As the deputy head of Hamas' political bureau, Al Arouri held a significant position within the organization and was recognized as one of the founding members of its military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. He was based in Beirut at the time of the attack.

The strike, aimed at a Hamas office in the Beirut suburb of al-Mushrifiyyeh, resulted in the death of at least four individuals, according to the Lebanese news agency NNA.

Former Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, expressed praise for the Israeli security and intelligence agencies regarding the assassination of Al Arouri. Danon congratulated the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Shin Bet, the Mossad, and the security forces for their role in eliminating the senior Hamas official. In a statement, he said, "I congratulate the IDF, the Shin Bet, the Mossad and the security forces for killing senior Hamas official (Saleh Al Arouri) in Beirut. Anyone who was involved in the 7/10 massacre should know that we will reach out to them and close an account with them."

CNN has sought further comments from the IDF, but no response has been received at the time of reporting.

It's worth noting that the Israeli army had previously demolished Al Arouri's residence in the occupied West Bank town of Aroura in October. The IDF justified the action by stating that forces had "operated in the town" to "demolish the residence of Saleh Al Arouri, deputy head of the Hamas terrorist organization’s political bureau and in charge of the Hamas’ activities in Judea and Samaria."
