Top basketball star, Kevin Durant and Nike have agreed to a lifetime contract, making him just the third NBA player to receive such a deal, joining Michael Jordan and LeBron James.   The 13-time All-Star has a relationship with Nike that dates back to 2007, releasing 15 different sets of shoes. Rapper Latto has admitted getting a plastic surgery .   Latto who discussed the downside of going under the knife on her '777 Radio' show on Apple Music, said her procedures were done correctly as people often think her body is natural.    The rapper however told other young girls looking to fix “little tweaks”, to find a healthy appreciation for their bodies because they'll end up obsessing over trips to the surgeon and can never please everyone.   She further revealed that her surgery hasn't stopped her from editing pics or having wardrobe malfunctions. Akpabio Invited By EFCC Over Corruption Allegation

  Th e former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has been invited by the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for interrogation over an investigation concerning corruption allegations against him.    It's been alleged that at the time Akpabio headed the ministry, a N40 billion fraud was perpetrated in the Niger Delta Development Commission.    Punch  also reported that there were allegations of over N86 billion contract scams involving the senator-elect and a former Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof Kemebradikumo Pondei, which the EFCC had been investigating.   The anti-graft agency had in the past arrested Akpabio over the alleged theft of N108.1 billion of Akwa Ibom funds.   The EFCC had earlier invited Akpabio to appear for questioning on March 29 but his lawyer, Umeh Kalu (SAN) in a letter to the anti-graft agency alleged that his client was suffering from pneumonia and cardiac arrhythmia.   The invitation was later rescheduled.   Former Fugees rapper, Prakazrel 'Pras' Michel has been convicted on criminal charges that he conspired with a Malaysian financier to orchestrate a series of foreign lobbying campaigns aimed at influencing the US government under two presidents.   The Grammy-winning artist and former member of the Fugees faced multiple counts over the failed conspiracy to help Malaysian businessman Jho Low and the Chinese government gain access to US officials, including former presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump.   The Grammy-winning rapper from the 1990s hip-hop group was charged with 10 counts of crimes including acting as an unregistered foreign agent of China, witness tampering, and falsifying campaign finance records. FEC Approves Action Plan To Protect Human Rights

  A plan to promote and protect human rights in the country has been approved by the federal executive council.    Abubakar Malami, Attorney-general of the federation (AGF) who disclosed that the plan was approved during the FEC meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, added that it is meant to “consolidate and upscale” efforts of the government to ensure citizens’ rights are protected.   According to the AGF, the Buhari-led federal government prioritises human rights which is why it paid N135 million to victims of Apo Six.   Malami added;    “The essence of the presentation of the council memo today is to deliberate on the action plan, review it and seek approval for its conservation or presentation before the International Human Rights Committee. “For the purpose of establishing that Nigeria is no longer operating at a local scale in terms of the observance and promotion of human rights, but indeed upscaling its international observance to international best practices as

NEC Recommends Temporary Suspension of Fuel Subsidy Removal Plans

  The National Economic Council (NEC) has recommended a temporary suspension of planned fuel susbsidy removal.   Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, disclosed this after the Valedictory NEC meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday, April 27.   She noted that while the Council agreed that the subsidy regime must be removed eventually as it is not sustainable, all of the preparatory works should continue in consultation with the states and other key stakeholders, including representatives of the incoming administration.   Ahmed said; “Today I was in the National Economic Council, where we discussed the issue of post-subsidy removal.   Carolyn Bryant Donham, the white woman who accused black teenager Emmett Till of making improper advances at her, leading to him being lynched, has died at the age of 88.  Donham, who had been battling cancer, died Tuesday night, April 25, in hospice care in Westlake, Louisiana, according to a death report filed Thursday, April 27, in Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office in Louisiana.  Till’s kidnapping and killing became a catalyst for the civil rights movement when his mother insisted on an open-casket funeral in their hometown of Chicago after his brutalized body was pulled from a river in Mississippi.  Till traveled from Chicago to visit relatives in Mississippi in August 1955. Donham — then named Carolyn Bryant — accused him of making improper advances on her at a grocery store in the small community of Money.  The Rev.   The Daytime Emmy award-winning series “Red Table Talk,” hosted by Jada Pinkett Smith, daughter Willow Smith, and mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris, has been cancelled.   Variety reported that Meta is shutting down its Facebook Watch original programs, and Red Table Talk was the last remaining show to be canceled.   Guests on the show included Jada's husband Will Smith as well as Sandra Bullock, Demi Moore, and Jordyn Woods.   Red Table Talk finished its original order.   Famed talk show host, Jerry Springer has died aged 79. The “Jerry Springer Show” host passed away peacefully at his Chicago home on Thursday, April 27, his family has announced. Lassa Fever Kills 152 In 15 Weeks

The death toll of Lassa fever in Nigeria so far this year has risen to 152, according to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.   In its 15th-week Lassa fever situation report, the NCDC said a total of 877 confirmed cases were recorded from 26 states and 101 local government areas from January 1 to April 16, 2023.   A total of 4,702 suspected cases were recorded during the period under review.   With the current death toll, the public health institution noted that the case-fatality ratio of the outbreak stood at 17.3 per cent.   The report read in part, “Person-to-person infections and laboratory transmission can also occur, particularly in healthcare settings in the absence of adequate infection prevention and control measures.     “Seventy-two per cent of all confirmed Lassa fever cases were reported from these three states (Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi) while 28 per cent were reported from 23 states with confirmed Lassa fever cases.   The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffery Onyeama, says the Federal government will be spending $1.2 million to purchase 40 luxurious buses to be used for the evacuation of Nigerians trapped in Sudan. Channels TV reports that Onyeama disclosed this while speaking to state house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting. Onyeama said the Federal government will evacuate citizens within days despite the 72-hour ceasefire agreement in Sudan.   He said women and children will be given utmost priority during the evacuation process. Diesel Tanker Explodes In Ibadan

A diesel-laden tanker exploded at Feranjesu axis, along Olunde-Olomi Road in Ibadan, Oyo State on Wednesday night, April 26.    The commandant of the Security Surveillance Team in Oluyole Local Government, Olusegun Idowu, said the tanker was coming from Olunde when the fire was noticed from underneath by some people by the roadside.   They alerted the driver, who quickly jumped out of the vehicle while everyone around the spot scampered into safety.   The fire was said to have spread, causing an explosion, with the diesel flowing into the roadside drainage.   The commandant stated that the state fire service had yet to be seen as at the time of filing this report.  

Covid Deaths Down 95 Percent This Year — WHO

  The WHO said Wednesday that Covid-19 deaths had dropped by 95 percent since the start of the year — but warned the virus was still on the move.
