Cemetery worker remanded for alleged rape of Ondo state minor

A 32-year-old cemetery worker has been remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre for allegedly raping a female minor.

 

The suspect identified as Seun Owoyemi, reportedly committed the offence on January 10 at Igesa Street, Igbara-Oke, headquarters of Ifedore local government

He was accused of luring the minor with N100 and having unlawful carnal knowledge of her twice, in contravention of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State.

Owoyemi pleaded not guilty to the charge and it was alleged that he accused the victim and her grandmother of trying to implicate him in his statement. 

 

Presiding Magistrate, O.L. Abu remanded the defendant to the Correctional Centre and ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and send to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

 

The case was adjourned to February 28, 2022, for mentioning.

ISWAP Insurgents Assassinate Village Head In Borno State, Nigeria

Suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly killed the traditional ruler of Kinnari, a remote village in Damasak, Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State. The brutal attack took place on the night of Friday, August 1, around 9:00 p.m., when the insurgents stormed the village and gunned down the 65-year-old village head, Goni Kinnari, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama. Following the incident, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, swiftly mobilised to the area and successfully repelled the attackers.
