Nine Facts On Joshua vs. Klitschko World Heavyweight Title Fight.
1.Anthony Joshua is 14 years Klitschko’s junior. He was born in Watford to Nigerian-born parents of Yoruba descent on 15 October 1989 while Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko was born 25 March 1976.
2.In all his all 18 of his professional contests, undefeated Joshua has never been beyond seven rounds; Klitschko has fought 12 rounds nine times.
3. Both fighters have close relatives in that are boxers. Joshua’s cousin is fellow unbeaten professional boxer Ben lleyemi. The pair made their professional debuts together in 2013. Klitschko’s elder brother, Vitali, is a three-time world heavyweight champion and is the eighth longest reigning heavyweight champion of all time. He held the WBO title from 1999 to 2000; the Ring magazine title from 2004 to 2005; and the WBC title twice, from 2004 to 2005 and from 2008 to 2013.
4. Joshua has held the International Boxing Federation crown since 2016. Klitschko lost the World Boxing Federation Heavyweight title to Tyson Fury on Saturday, November 28, 2015. Klitschko lost the fight by unanimous decision, with scores of 116–111, 115–112, and 115–112 all in favour of Fury
5. The fight between the 27-year-old and the 41-year-old will be held in front of 90,000 fans in the biggest fight the division has seen in years.
It is the most significant heavyweight fight ever to be held in Britain and will reportedly earn the pair upwards of £10 million ($13 million, 12 million euros) each.
6.Both fighters have represented their countries in the Olympics. Joshua is a London 2012 Olympic gold medallist. He was seven years old when Klitschko (64-4, 53 KOs) turned professional in 1996 following his Olympic gold medal success in Atlanta earlier that year.
7. Joshua has fought 18 professional fights, winning all while Klitschko has 68 fights, four losses, 53 knockouts. Klitschko is bidding to become a three-time world heavyweight champion like his older brother, Vitali, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis and Muhammad Ali.
8. Joshua tipped the scales at 17 stones 12lbs 2oz (113.4 kg) — 10 pounds more than Klitschko and his heaviest ever pre-fight weight — at Friday’s weigh-in.
9. The event will take place on 29 April 2017 at Wembley Stadium in London, England, with Joshua’s IBF and the vacant WBA (Super) and IBO heavyweight titles on the line.
