British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, currently is basking in the euphoria of his victory over 41-year-old Vladimir Klitschko but it is worthy to take a look at soft part of the man himself – his tattoo.
On the upper part of the 27-year-old’s arm is a tattoo of the map of Africa with the word ‘wisdom’ curved above it. In the centre of the map of Africa is a miniature map of Nigeria.

The tattoo probably means that Joshua has never forgotten his Nigerian roots despite winning a gold medal for Britain at the London 2012 Olympics.
Joshua has said in many interviews when asked about his true nationality that he does not want to be caught in the dispute of loyalty between England and Nigeria but it is evident from his tattoo that his heart is always with the most populous black nation in the world.

On Joshua’s website is a quote which states that: “As long as there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do you no harm”. The quote is a translation of a popular Nigerian proverb and is also another pointer that Joshua has not forgotten his Nigerian roots.

These symbols point to the ‘can do’ Nigerian spirit which has been helping the boxer in all his 19 unbeaten fights.
