British and Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua has claimed that the crowd in New York contributed to his shocking defeat against Mexican boxer Andy Ruiz Jr.
In June this year, Anthony was defeated for the very first time in his boxing career by Andy Ruiz who made Joshua go down four times before the fight was stopped in the seventh round.
Many Nigerian boxing followers and other fans in many parts of the world were shocked on how Andy Ruiz was able to beat Anthony Joshua convincingly.
And the 29-year-old former unified world heavyweight champion has now given an explanation on factors that made him lose against Ruiz.
“Everything it meant to Ruiz winning, is everything it didn’t mean to me beating him. “In the second round I heard the crowd booing, someone told me there was a fight going on in the arena, that’s why. But my debut in New York – crowd’s booing.
“The week before, [Deontay] Wilder had knocked [Dominic] Breazeale out in the first round and I’m fighting two weeks after, so I thought ‘let’s go and handle business’, I don’t want to let the people down,” Joshua told JD Sport via their YouTube channel.
