Justin Timberlake Strikes Plea Deal In Drunk Driving Case, Reports Say

Justin Timberlake Arrest
Singer Justin Timberlake will appear in court on Long Island on Friday to enter a plea and resolve his drunk driving case, multiple outlets reported Wednesday—ending a case that began when he was arrested in the Hamptons in June.

Key Facts

Timberlake is expected to plead guilty in Sag Harbor, New York, to a lesser offense than driving while intoxicated, the Associated Press reported, citing an individual with knowledge of the plea who did not provide more details.

Deadline reported Timberlake will plead guilty to a traffic violation and pay a fine at an in-person appearance Friday in the Hamptons.

Timberlake previously pleaded not guilty twice to driving while intoxicated—with his lawyers denying he drove drunk—after he was pulled over in the Hamptons and ultimately arrested.

When he was arrested, police said the singer had bloodshot and glassy eyes, slow speech, the odor of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests, according to a criminal complaint obtained by NBC News.

Big Number

$300 to $500. That’s the range of fine Timberlake will have to pay in connection to the charge, Deadline reported.

Key Background

During the arrest, Timberlake allegedly told the officer repeatedly he “had one martini” and was following friends home after dinner at the American Hotel in the Hamptons. He was pulled over around 12:30 a.m. and was held in police custody overnight before being released the next day. Timberlake rose to fame as a Disney child actor on the “Mickey Mouse Club” show with other stars including Ryan Gosling and Britney Spears. He then joined the boy band *NYSNC before breaking off and going solo in 2002. He is currently in the middle of the The Forget Tomorrow World Tour, and his next show is later this month in New Jersey.

Tangent

After the initial arrest, Timberlake and his lawyer were adamant they would fight the charge. Edward Burke, Jr., Timberlake’s attorney, said in a statement the day after the arrest that he looked forward to “vigorously defending” the singer, and in July he said “Justin Timberlake was not intoxicated” and they were “confident” the criminal charge would be dismissed, ABC 7 in New York reported.
