Tsonga rapper, Sho Madjozi won the Best New International Act at the prestigious 2019 BET Awards at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California.
The BET Awards celebrate black excellence in music, acting, sports, and other fields of entertainment over the past year. The awards are presented annually, and are broadcast live on BET.
Sho Madjozi beat the likes of France’s Jokair and Nesly, the UK’s Headie One and Octavian as well as Teniola Apata from Nigeria. The award was a viewer’s choice, meaning it was voted for by fans.
Speaking on her win, Madjozi says her it is a testament that you can be from any village, in any forgotten part of the world and still be a superstar.
“For the girls that come from where I’m from, which is Limpopo, I just want to say that you don’t need to change who you are, you can still be big,” she said while accepting her award.
